Senior Vice President of Programming, Say Yes to Education & The Weiss Institute

Biography

Angela Romans is Senior Vice President of Programming for Say Yes to Education & the Weiss Institute. Founded in 1987, Say Yes to Education is a nonprofit that partners with communities around the goal of every public school student not only graduating high school – but doing so with the preparation to complete a college or other postsecondary education, and with the wherewithal to afford it. In partnership with America’s Promise Alliance, Say Yes launched the Weiss Institute in April, 2017, as a nationwide initiative that draws on the organizations’ combined, half century of experience to help communities expand their capacity to support students as they prepare for college.

Romans has spent her career focused on increasing college readiness, access, and success for underserved youth. She most recently served as co-director, district & systems transformation, at the Annenberg Institute for School Reform at Brown University. From 2011 to 2013, she was senior advisor on education to Mayor Angel Taveras of Providence, RI.

She has also managed school startup and partnership services for seven small, alternative high schools and programs in Massachusetts and Rhode Island, as New England Network Manager for Diploma, Plus, Inc.; worked for more than a decade as an admissions officer and academic advisor at Brown University, and taught math and science at Urban Academy in New York City and Fenway High School in Boston.

Romans received an S.B. in biomedical engineering from Harvard and Radcliffe Colleges in 1992, and an Ed.M. in math teaching and curriculum, with an emphasis on urban education, from the Harvard Graduate School of Education in 1994. She is an Annie E. Casey Foundation Children and Family Fellow.
