As Global Head of Diversity & Inclusion (D&I), Yau Cheng brings to the role her passion and expertise in inclusive leadership and harnessing the power of communications to build and strengthen talent experiences, client relationships and brand differentiation.
Yau leads and drives BNY Mellon’s D&I strategy for a 50,000-strong global workforce. She partners with senior leaders and employees to increase ownership, accountability and transparency across the enterprise, and promote D&I as a driver of organizational and individual engagement, performance and growth. She also engages with clients, peers, professional associations and nonprofits to share ideas, best practices and leverage broader stakeholder networks to accelerate D&I progress at BNY Mellon and across the financial services industry.
Prior to joining BNY Mellon, Yau specialized in communications strategy at Deloitte, leading global initiatives focused on enhancing marketplace eminence, brand reputation and client consideration. She has also led executive communications for Bank of America Merrill Lynch’s Global Wealth Management division, served as Chief Marketing Officer for a tech start-up and was Director of Marketing for a professional services company. Yau started her career in financial services as an equity investment analyst, and has held both buy-side and sell-side roles in corporate development, M&A and private equity.
Yau received her B.S. in Business Administration from the University of Illinois – Champaign/Urbana. She holds a Digital Media Marketing certificate from New York University. Yau lives with her husband in New Jersey, and is the lucky stepmom to three boys. She enjoys cooking, hiking, biking and traveling. She also designs jewelry, and has been twice featured in InStyle magazine.
